My love of photography began with my dad. He was an amateur photographer back in the days of film photography. He would take pictures of everything, from my sister and I to the flowers and birds in the backyard. It was years after he passed away that I stumbled upon his equipment in our attic. I had always appreciated the art of a photo, but had not experimented with creating my own. And so my journey began.
I learned as I went, getting to know how exposures and lighting worked through books and countless roles of film. I would take pictures of everything and anything, much like my dad. It wasn't until after college (where I pursued my other love, music) that I bought my first digital camera, and really began to develop my craft.
I started by taking pictures of friends and family members every chance I got. They began to tell me "you could do this for a living". And that's when I started my part-time photography business, working from word of mouth (my husband brought me lots of business). I still work 50 hours a week at my full-time job (a manager for a retail store) to pay the bills, but get to exercise my artistic side with my photos. My husband and I recently added a new edition to our little family, our son, in addition to my stepson. He gets free photo sessions every week!
I specialize in photos of people. I love to shoot children, as well as seniors and families. I shoot mainly on location, but have a small indoor studio if desired. Candid photos are my favorite. Posed photos are great, but sometimes its the time between the poses, or immediately after them, that are the most true to the client's personality.
As I am still building my portfolio, my prices are very reasonable. I am also interested in branching into weddings, and would be willing to work for a very reasonable fee in order to grow that business.
